They open and close allowing the fuel and air to flow into the engine. Your stock petals are Metal--NOT GOOD- they can break and end in your engine doing damage to ypur piston and cylinder. Changing ends that threat and allows better flow of mixture of fuel and air which offers improved response and higher speeds and lower reaction times when letting off throttle and getting back on it.
